Jan  2011

A FDP on Linux was organized on Jan 19-21 by MCA dept. The objective of this FDP was to make the faculty linux-savvy by introducing them to the open source products namely Open Office, Calc and Impress and other internet utilities. The resource persons were  Mr. S. Sivakumar & Mr. S. Baskar,  Mr. Praveen, Mr.Shanu, & Mr. Welkin from FSF, Tamilnadu. The total number of participants was 12. The coordination team included Prof. Subhash Babu, Mr. KGM Madhwaraj and Ms. A. Subashini.

Dr.  M. Geetha, Asst. Prof. MBA Dept, has presented a paper on “The Role of Store Environment in Impulse Buying- An empirical Investigation in India" organized by Great lakes Institute of Management , Chennai, during Jan 2011.

Ms. R. Maruthi, Asst. Professor, MCA Dept,  published a paper titled, “A Method to fuse multi-focus images  in spatial domain and its evaluation”  in  ICFAI Journal on Computer Sciences - Vol V  No.1 Jan 2011.

Feb 2011

A FDP on “Brand Management – Theory and Practice” was conducted from 3rd to 5th February, 2011 by MBA dept. The objective of the program was to act as refresher and enrichment program for faculty members teaching Marketing and Brand Management in MBA / PGDM programs.

The program was inaugurated by Mr. Sankaran Raghunathan, Director, and National Management School. The external resource persons were Mr. Jaganath Ramasamy from Crystal Ad Agency, Mr. Prakash Dharmaraj, Consultant, Mr. Viswanath, General Manager (Marketing and Services) Cavinkare, Ms. Vidya Venugopalan, IMRB, Mr. P. Vijayaraghvan, Professor, and IIT Madras. The internal resource persons were, Prof R. Balasubramanian, HOD, MBA Dept, Prof Mahesh Doraiswamy, Professor and Dr M. Geetha, Asst Professor. The total number of participants were 14. The coordination was done by Prof Mahesh Doraiswamy.

Mr. V. Pattabhi Ram, Chartered Accountant, Financial Consultant & Journalist, gave a guest lecture on the topic  “Union Budget” on  18th of  Feb 2011 for the MBA students.

Mr. E. Karnika Yashwant, Entrepreneur, gave a talk on, “Entrepreneur” to the MBA students 21t of Feb 2011.

Prof. S Gopalakrishnan,  Prof. R Kannan,  MBA Dept participated in the seminar on  Lean and Agile Supply Chain For the  Annual Event Spectrum, Organized by Indian Institute of Materials Management , Chennai.

Mr. Srinivas Gumparthi, Associate Professor, MBA Dept, received his Doctorate from Faculty of Management, Alagappa University in Risk Management during convocation on 14th Feb 2011.

Priyadharshini E and Prethesh kumar Bhalotia (II MCA),  Participated and presented a paper and won the 1st prize in  Cybyrus ’11 at  Pondicherry Engineering College.

Santron N M, Navarajan and Nagappan (II MCA), won the first prize in the event Multimedia in Cybyrus ’11 at  Pondicherry Engineering College.

Priyadharshini E, Prethesh Kumar Bhalotia, Santron N M, Navarajan, Nagappan, Nagatara (II MCA) , won the first prize in the event Adzap in Cybyrus ’11 at  Pondicherry Engineering College.

Navarajan (II MCA) won the first prize in the event Online Treasure Hunt in Cybyrus ’11 at  Pondicherry Engineering College.

Nagappan (II MCA) won the II prize in Online Quiz in Cybyrus ’11 at  Pondicherry Engineering College.

Praveen Kumar. R and Senthil (II MCA) won the first prize in the event programming in Technokrat,  Anand Institute of Higher Technology.

Sandhya. N (II MCA) won the II prize in the event Block and Tackle in  FemFest, Sathyabhama University.

Rajmohan. S (I MCA) won the II prize in the paper presentation event in Sammeeksha, R.M.K Engineering College,Chennai.

Shankar. D won the 3rd prize in the event Best Manager in Manaquest, ITM Business School, Chennai.

March 2011
MCA Dept undertook a consultancy assignment to create courseware for Chennai Business School. The assignment was done by Ms. Geeta Santhosh, Associate Professor.

Ms. R. Maruthi, Asst. Professor,  MCA Dept,  published a  paper on, “Estimation of various types of blurs in the digital images using an image quality metric”  in the Proceedings of the National Conference on Recent Trends in Information Technology and Communication "NCRTIC'11",  held on 11th March 2011, Velammal Engineering  College, Chennai .

Prof. MCA Dept,  attended a  workshop on,  “Network Simulators: NS-2 and QualNet”  organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai  Supported by IEEE Student Branch and Computer Society of India.

Mr. C. Jeyakarthikeyan,  Asst.  Professor MCA Dept,  participated  in the “CloudCamp 2011”  at Tidel Park, Taramani, Chennai.

Ms. Vani Haridasan Asst.  Professor,  MBA Dept, participated in the Workshop on Creative Teaching Techniques during 11th and 12th Feb 2011 at SRM B School, Vadapalani, Chennai.

Ms. Prithika Sampath,  MBA, brought glory to the school by presenting her paper titled, ”What can colleges do to make students employment ready?"  at  eWIT, a forum for empowering women at IT.
Prethesh Kumar Bhalotia, Priyadharshini E and Santron students of II MCA  brought laurels to the school when their paper on “Image Processing” was accepted for Paper Presentation at the  IEEE Sponsored Conference at  Vinayaga  Mission University.

Prethesh Kumar Bhalotia and  Praveen Kumar R (II MCA) won Ist prize in the event Sequel Database Programming at Madras Institute of Technology Chennai.

Thirugnana Sambantham and  Praveen Inbarajan (I MBA) received the Ist prize ( Cash Prize of Rs. 1000) in at   Vithi Charitram (Movie making) Contest at IFMR Chennai.

Prof. K. Subhash Babu, MCA participated in the International Conference on Accreditation (Washington Accord and ABET Imperatives)  May 18-19, 2011 which was held in Breeze Hotel, Chennai and the conference was hosted by RMK group of institutions.

Mr. B. Senthil Kumar, Head, Usability Lab, Computer Science Corporation (csc.com),Chennai, gave a guest lecture on the topic “Usability” on  5th May  for the MCA faculty and  students.

Mr. D. Rajasekar, Executive Vice President – Cloud Computing and   BI Ramco Systems, gave a talk on “Cloud Computing” on 6th May for the MCA faculty and students.

A talk on Challenges for India was given by  B. S. Raghavan I.A.S. (Retd) Journalist on 11th May for the MBA and MCA students.

Ms. S. Gajalakshmi, AP MCA  attended the FDP on “A Scientific Tour over Computing Sciences using the Powerful Techniques Discrete Mathematics” on 27th and 28th of May which was  conducted by Velammal College of Engineering, Chennai

Ms. R.  Maruthi, AP MCA  was awarded the Ph. D degree by the Mother Teressa Women's University, Kodaikanal.

Mr. Dorai Thodla, Founder, iMorph, Inc. conducted a day long programming challenge contest for MCA III year students. The challenge comprised of 8 questions of increasing difficulty. Two students were able to crack the challenge completely. These two students Mr. Praveen Kumar and Mr. Karthikeyan were awarded internship at Imorph. This event was coordinated by Ms. Geeta Santhosh.

A team from ProU India Engineering Pvt Ltd visited our campus comprising of chief operating officer Mr. Ramesh Arcot and  senior officials Mr. T. N. Chandrasekar and Mr. R. Rajan on July 2nd 2011. They interacted with Dr. MG Bhaskar Mktg. Director, Mr. K. Subashbabu, HOD of MCA department and Ms. Geeta Santhosh.  Consequent to the discussion they offered two projects to MCA department.

The first project is being developed by final year MCA students Ms. L. Yasotha and Ms. N. Vijaylakshmi. This project will provide a solution for specific accounting related issues of the company. The second project is done by Ms. A. Sameena and Ms. K. Geetha of Final year MCA. This project is to provide a time monitoring solution for their employees.  Ms. Rama Parvathi MCA dept. is coordinating the project.

Mr. P. Nithyanandam, AP MCA  & Ms. S. Gajalakshmi, AP MCA  participated in the workshop on “Curriculum Development & e-Learning” which was held from 15 th to 23rd July and it was conducted by Mr. Prof. N J Rao  and Mr Sivakumar at  SSN, SASE.

Dr. Srinivas Gumparthi, Asso. Prof. MBA attended a FDP on Advanced Corporate Finance at IIMK, organized by IIMK, Kozhikode which was held from  25th to 29th of July.

August 2011

MCA final year students Priyardarshini E, Praveen Kumar, Santron N M and Prethesh Kumar Bhalotia attended #In50hrs, a programme where entrepreneurs, hackers, designers and experienced entrepreneurs are invited to convert an idea into a prototype within 50 Hours.

Cognizant Technology Solutions conducted 3 day (26th -28th August 2011) Xperience Cognizant Programme at Chennai. Around 46 colleges participated from all over India. MCA final year student Nanditha  Narayanan and Narendran CSE Department were the Cognizant Ambassadors from SSN. They competed in various events and won prizes. In General Quiz they were placed 2nd and they won a 12.1 MP Sony Cybershot Digicam. In the Technical Quiz also they were placed 2nd and won an iPod. They were declared the Grand Brand Ambassador for Cognizant and received a trophy and an Acer Laptop.

MCA Alumni Mr. N. Ramanan of Tesco and Mr. B. S. Dwaraknath of Goldman Sachs conducted  a day long workshop on Mock interview Sessions and Group discussion for MCA III year students on 27th August 2011. The workshop was coordinated by Ms. Geeta Santhosh.

Mr. Raghunathan, AlleTech gave a talk on “Students getting trained on Microsoft AX, ERP package”  on 26th August for the MBA Students & Faculty.
Prof. Elangovan, University of Victoria gave a talk on the topic “Leadership” on 29th August for the MBA Students & Faculty.

MCA 2008-2011 Batch Students Nithya Ravi and Faustina Joan have registered for full time Ph. D Programme at Anna University Chennai.

Mr. Md. Zubeir and Mr. Harikrishna of MCA III Yr, participated in the event Technical Quiz,in Colosium 2011 which was held at SRM Valliammai and won the 3rd  prize.

Mr. ArunPrasath & Mr. John Eipe of MCA III Yr, participated in the event Debugging and won the 1st prize in Colosium 2011 which was held at SRM Valliammai, Chennai

Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed and Mr. Senthil of MCA III Yr, participated in the event “Top coders and won 2nd prize in the symposium ALTIUS 2011 which was organized by Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering.

Mr. Naveep  Singh, Mr. Prethesh Kumar Bhalotia and Mr. Senthil of MCA III Yr, won the 1st prize in the event “Business Travia” , at Converita 2011, IT Dept SSNCE.

Mr. Navarajan & Mr. Raghuraman of  MCA III Yr won the 2nd prize in the Web designing event at Converita 2011, IT Dept SSNCE.

Mr. T. Prethesh Kumar Bhaloti, Mr. Pratosh Kuma, Mr. Praveen Kumar Mr. R, Senthil T and Mr. R. Arvind of MCA Final Year attended Android Application Development Workshop conducted by the CSI(Computer Society of India) on 20-Aug-2011(Saturday).

Mr. Raman P Director, Ransys BIOS visited MCA dept on 20th Sept 2011 and had a meeting with MCA HOD Prof. Subhash Babu and his team of faculty. He viewed a demo of the product developed by the MCA department students namely the GARC – Graduate Academic Resource Centre and gave various suggestions. He also evinced interest in mentoring students for the development of certain real time projects.

A guest lecture  titled “The various Aspects of Project Development” was given by Mr. Raman P,  Director Ransys BIOS for the students and faculty of MCA.
Dr. Srinivas Gumparthi, Asso. Prof. MBA dept. has been recognized by the Anna University of Technology, Chennai as a supervisor for guiding Ph. D students.

Mr. Pramod Kumar G, AP MCA, participated in the workshop on  Middleware Technologies, organized by Mohammad Sathak A J College of Engineering.
MCA Dept conducted its annual technical symposium “REBOOT 2011”  on 16th   September, 2011. The chief guest was Mr. T.V. Sivasankaran Regional Head,  Mobily Info Tech.

Mr. Navdeep Singh and Mr. Prethesh kumar Bhalotia students of MCA III year participated in the two day workshop on Computer Networks organized by Computer Society of India Education Directorate during 24th and 25th of Sept 2011.

·A workshop on GIMP- GNU Image Manipulation Program was conducted on, 3 Sept. 2010.  The  resource person was Sunil Nallode,  Chief of Design and Raghunath Babu, Senior Software Engineer,  Mahiti Infotech,  Bangalore.

Ms. J. Karthega, AP MCA Dept, gave a guest on Algorithm Analysis at Velammal College of Engineering on 30th of October.

Mr. P. Nithyanadam, AP MCA Dept, has been invited as a chief guest  for the CSI Chapter inauguration & Inaugural Address on Information Hiding – Steganography, held at Dr. Navalar Nedunchezian College  of Engg. Tozhudur, Tiruchy.

The management meet “Daksha was held on 30th Sept 2011 with the 700 participants  and it was organized by MBA Dept .The chief guest for the day was Mr. C. K. Ranganathan, MD, Cavin Care.

Mr. Aswin S and Mr. Raj Mohan students of MBA sponsored a 75 kg Rice Bag to El-Shadia Children Home at Kazhipattur that takes care of nearly 30 children. The students parted away with  the part of money which they got from MMA for second prize in paper presentation.

Mr. Aswin.S and  Mr. Rajmohan  of II MBA students came as runner up in the New Age Marketing Paper Presentation held at MMA Annual Students Convention 2011

A   team of four students of MCA II has been selected in  the Online International Programming contest first round where top institutes like IITM, IITB, BITS Pilani, Anna University, etc., contested. Our team will be representing SSN college in Onsite Contest (second round) to be held in Amrita University, Coimbatore during December 10th - December 14th 2011.

The students of the School have been very active indeed in both academic and extra curricular events. The School has won several significant laurels at prestigious inter-collegiate and inter-university level events, across the country.

· Two teams comprising of MCA students were selected to participate in Initial Online Round  in Asia-Amritapuri region, Association for Computing Machinery - International Collegiate Programming Contest.
Gurunath. K (II MBA),  Amalan. G (II MBA)  and  Sekar. V (II MBA) won the 3rd  prize  in the event Business Quiz in PARADIGM 2010, organized by the  Dept of Mgmt Studies ETHIRAJ COLLEGE FOR WOMEN.

R.  Shanmugakani (II MBA),   S. Deepika (II MBA),  G. Deepika (II MBA),  Sangeetha Priyadarshini (II MBA),  R. Radhika (II MBA),   won the  1st  prize in the Adzap  in I-SAGE 10 at SRM School of Management

S. Ashok kumar (II MBA), won the  1st  in the event Best  Manager  in DEFT’10 at Anand Institute of Higher Technology

R. Kannan, Associate Professor, MBA Dept. R. Maruthi, Asst Professor, MCA Dept. attended the  symposium on Challenges in Education organized by Sri Sathya Sai Institute at DG Vaishav College, Chennai
Representatives from OrganicApex , an IT firm located in Teynampet, Chennai, conducted a test especially for the  MCA department for recruiting students for final year projects on 15.10.2010. Around 41 Students underwent three rounds of technical interview, and one Student Ranjith Raj S of (MCA III) was selected for the project and probable placement consequent to his performance during the project.

Mr. Bala J. Raman has given a lecture on Entrepreneurship to the MBA students and Faculty.

The School organized National Level Symposium “Reboot-2010” for students of Computer Applications and “Daksha-2010” for Management Students. There was excellent response for the symposia and management fest in terms of participation from leading B schools and colleges. The quality of the participation in various events was also of a very high order.

Mr. K. Srinivasa Raghavan  Senior Technical Director National Informatics Centre (NIC) Chennai was the chief guest for Reboot 2010 and 850 participants from 30 colleges across Tamil Nadu participated in the symposium.

Mr. Ravi Santanam, former MD, Hindustan Motors, was the chief guest in Daksha 2010, and 290 participants from 70 colleges and business schools participated in the management fest.  A Panel Discussion was also organized in collaboration with business line. Eminent personalities that participated in the panel discussion were Mr. Shankar, VP (Sales & Marketing),  Ramco Group, Mr. Sridhar, Distribution Partner Manager,  TN & Kerala, Red Bull India Pvt. Prof. Subhash Babu, Professor and Head, MCA Dept and K. G. Madhwaraj, Asst Prof. MCA Dept  participated in the  Regional convention on Free Software for Academicians and Researchers  by FREE SOFTWARE FOUNDATION, TAMILNADU  at  Institute for Financial Management and Research

Ms. J. Karthega, Asst Prof. MCA Dept. participated in the International Seminar on Usability Matters 2010 ,  Usabilty Matter.Org (Chennai Chapter).

HCL conducted interviews for MCA students for projects. Around 39 out of 41 students of MCA III were subsequently selected as project trainees. They would be paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 9,000.
